Rules & Guidelines

Sunway National Art Challenge (the “Contest”) is designed to encourage eligible school students (“Participant(s)”) to use their creativity to create their own interpretation of a specific theme related to Art & Sustainability.

Sunway International Schools (“SIS” or “Organiser”) will choose the winning design, and prizes will be awarded in accordance with these official rules & guideline (“Rules”)

To enter the Contest, Participants must agree to the Rules. Therefore, please read the Rules prior to entry to ensure complete understanding of the Contest. These Rules form a binding legal agreement between the Participant and Organiser with respect to the Contest.

1. Theme

The theme of this year’s Contest is related to Art & Sustainability with the title of: “Towards A Better Future”.

SIS is deeply committed to advancing the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by United Nation. We hope this Contest will raise awareness among young to construct knowledge, explore values and develop appreciation towards their surroundings through art expression。

2. Eligibility

This Contest open to all students ages 5-18 who are enrolled in kindergarten, primary and secondary school, and/or learning centre equivalent in Malaysia.

Category placement will be determined by the age at the time of submission:

  • Group A: Ages 5 – 8
  • Group B: Ages 9 – 12
  • Group C: Ages 13 – 15
  • Group D: Ages 16 – 18
3. Initial Submission Requirements
  • Participants must fill out all required information on the Online Registration Form. This includes photograph and/or scan of original artwork.
  • Participants must submit only one (1) art piece via online by (New Date: 10 August 2022).
  • No physical artwork is required at this stage unless it has been shortlisted (See Shortlisted Submission Requirements).
  • The contact details in the Registration Form must be correct to receive confirmation of submission and other notifications. Please ensure that SIS email is not identified as spam.
  • Participants aged under 18 must obtain consent from their parents/guardians for permission to enter the Contest. Only parents/guardians or school representatives can assist participants to register and submit on their behalf
4. Shortlisted Submission Requirements
  • Shortlisted Participants will be notified and are required to post their original artwork by deadline to be eligible for winning the Contest.
  • Original artwork will not be returned. Shortlisted and winning artworks will become the property of SIS.
  • The Organiser reserves the right to alter, mat, frame, display, exhibit or use the design entirely or partially, if any.
5. Online Voting
  • Shortlisted artworks will be published for public voting in August 2022
  • The number of voting times may be restricted. The presence of a cap to voting and what that limit is will be made clear for each vote. Any attempts the voting limits set forth above will not be counted as valid.
  • The team with the most online votes will receive the Most Popular Award, and prizes including RM200 cash, certificate, and trophy for each category. Additionally, RM200 cash prize will be awarded for winning student’s school.
  • Organiser reserves the right to disqualify entries or suspend voting if it has reasonable grounds to suspect that fraudulent voting has occurred.
  • Organiser reserves the right to change, cancel or suspend this vote at any time
6. Artwork Requirements
  • Originality:
    - Each artwork must be an original work by the Participants and shall not infringe any copyrights or any other rights of any third parties.
    - If third-party materials are used as references, the original source must be credited
  • Use of Materials:
    - The artwork must be 2D, such as a painting or drawing.
    - Acceptable media includes paint, pencil, marker, crayon, ink, felt, oil pastel, or a mix of drawing media. Digitally created artwork, including photographs, are not accepted.
  • Artwork Size:
    - Submit only one (1) art piece per Participant.
    - Original artwork should be A3 size (approximately 29.7cm x 42.0cm).
  • Online Submission Format:
    - Image File : Max. 2MB
    - File Format : JPEG only.
    - File Name : <IC/Passport No>_<Name> Example: 020101085555_AliAhmad.jpg
7. Competition Timeline
  • Competition Deadline: 10 August 2022 (New Date)
  • Shortlisted Submission Deadline : Original artwork must deliver to SIS no later than 9 September 2022
  • Voting Period : August 2022
  • Winner Announced : Mid September 2022
  • Award Ceremony & Art Exhibition: October 2022
8. Judging Criteria
  • Shortlisted and winning artworks will be selected by a panel of judges appointed by the Organiser.
  • Participants agree that Organiser has the sole right to decide all matters and disputes arising from the Contest. All decisions made by the Organiser are final.
  • Judging Criteria include:
    - Aesthetic Design (artistic skill, values, and elements)
    - Creativity & Originality (uniqueness of the design)
    - Theme Communication (how well the theme is expressed)
    - Impact (capacity to inspire and bring awareness)
9. Winners
  • Winners will be announced via email and online platform.
  • Winners will be awarded with cash prizes, certificate, and trophy. Cash prizes will also be awarded to winning student’s school. The winner of School Spirit Award will be based on the school with the highest number of Participants.
  • Winners are required to attend an award ceremony held by the Organiser to receive the prizes, unless otherwise state or permitted.
  • All recording, transportation, accommodation, personal costs and/or any other costs, fees and/or other expenses that are incurred to participate in this Contest and to redeem the prize is the sole responsibility of the winner.

    - Group C (Ages 13-15) :    1st Prize - RM1,000,   2nd Prize - RM700,   3rd Prize - RM500,   Most Popular - RM200
    - Group D (Ages 16-18) :    1st Prize - RM1,200,   2nd Prize - RM900,   3rd Prize - RM700,   Most Popular - RM200
  • Prizes for Winning Student’s School or Centre:
    - Group A (Ages 5-8) :    1st Prize - RM300,   2nd Prize - RM250,   3rd Prize - RM200,   Most Popular - RM200,   School Spirit - RM500
    - Group B (Ages 9-12) :    1st Prize - RM300,   2nd Prize - RM250,   3rd Prize - RM200,   Most Popular - RM200,   School Spirit - RM500
    - Group C (Ages 13-15) :    1st Prize - RM300,   2nd Prize - RM250,   3rd Prize - RM200,   Most Popular - RM200,   School Spirit - RM500
    - Group D (Ages 16-18) :    1st Prize - RM300,   2nd Prize - RM250,   3rd Prize - RM200,   Most Popular - RM200,   School Spirit - RM500
10. Additional Requirements
  • By registering for the Contest, Participants have read and agreed to the Personal Data Protection Notice and the Rules. Participants below 18 years of age are required to obtained consent from their parents/guardians.
  • By submitting an artwork, Participant agrees to the Rules, and further agrees to indemnify and hold SIS and their affiliates, agencies, service providers, and any of their employees harmless from any and all claims, damages, expenses, costs and liabilities, brought or asserted by any third party against any of the indemnities due to or arising out of the Participant’s artwork or conduct in connection with this Contest, including but not limited to trademark, copyright or other intellectual property rights, right of publicity, right of privacy or defamation.
  • All submissions shall become the property and ownership of Sunway Education Group (SEG) and SIS including its interest and copyright, and may be used either alone or with other artwork for any purpose that SEG and SIS in their sole discretion may determine such as to promote the Contest, in all media or other media not known or later developed worldwide in perpetuity. Artwork and Participant information in the Contest Form (e.g., name, country, age) may be used in any media, publications, and distribution. This grant includes without limitation the right to edit, mix or duplicate and to re-use the artwork in whole or part as SIS may elect.
  • Participant agrees to release, indemnify, and hold harmless SIS from all claims of advertisement and promotional activities.
  • SIS reserves the right to amend these rules anytime during the Contest and/or change the prizes for all groups and categories.
  • Participants who do not comply with all the competition rules will be disqualified. Organiser reserve the right to disqualify artwork that are deemed as inappropriate, offensive, or plagiarized.
  • In the event of a dispute on the result of the Contest, the decision made by SIS is final
