Rules & Guidelines

SIS Uniform Design Competition (the “Competition”) is designed to bring together our communities including SIS students, parents, guardians, teachers, staff, and students from other schools (collectively as “Contestant” or “Team” or “Member”) to generate fresh ideas and create new uniform designs for the school.

Reference:

  • “Contestant” is a person who takes part in this competition
  • “Team” is a group of contestants collaborating together as one
  • “Member” is a person belonging to a team

Sunway International Schools (“SIS” or “Organiser”) will choose the winning design, and prizes will be awarded in accordance with these official rules & guideline (“Rules”).

To enter the Competition, contestants must agree to the Rules. Therefore, please read the Rules prior to entry to ensure complete understanding of the Competition. These Rules form a binding legal agreement between the Contestant and Organiser with respect to the Competition.

1. Theme

The theme of this year’s Competition is Connecting Minds, Creating the Future. In tandem with the school’s new logo and motto - “Fortuna Eruditis Favet” (“Fortune favours the Prepared Mind”), we would love to gather the creative minds of our students and communities to create a uniform that expresses our school values, identity, and future growth.

2. Eligibility

This Competition is a team Competition open to SIS students of all ages and grades, along with parents, guardians, staff, and students from other schools, provided the following requirements are met:

  • Each team must have 3 to 5 members
  • Each team must include member(s) from Group A and B, while Group C is optional

Group A
SIS Student(s)

MUST involve at least one (1) student, or a maximum of three (3) students, who are currently studying in SIS.

Note: SIS Student(s) who will be graduating in 2022 are allowed to enter the Competition. Deferred students are not allowed to participate.

Group B
SIS Parent / Teacher

MUST involve one (1) member from this Group.

Note: It may consist of SIS parents, teachers, guardians, or staff who are not working as a professional fashion designer.

Group C
Student from Other Schools

OPTIONAL to include only one (1) student from other schools.

Note: It refers to students who are currently studying in a school registered under the Ministry of Education, Malaysia.

3. Registration
  • Each team must nominate a primary contact person from Group A or B as the team representative in filling out the Registration Form.
  • The contact details of the primary contact person must be correct to receive confirmation, announcements, and other notifications.
  • Upon successful registration, contestants must attend briefing(s) and/or design or related workshop(s) arranged by the Organiser.
  • Contestants aged below 18 must obtain consent from their parents/guardians to enter the Competition.
4. Round 1 Submission
  • Each team must submit only one (1) set of uniform design.
  • Each design must be an original work by the team and shall not infringe any copyrights or any other rights of any third parties.
  • Either hand-drawn or digital illustrations of the design are accepted. All submissions must be made via the online portal before the deadline. No finished outfits are required at this stage.
  • Each team to design the SIS School Uniform Set that comprises the following:
    1. SIS Formal Wear - Shirt & Long Pants (Male) and Shirt & Skirt/Skort (Female)
    2. SIS Casual Wear - Polo Shirt (Unisex)
    3. SIS Sports Wear - Sports Shirt & Short Pants (Unisex)
5. Round 2
  • Only shortlisted teams will proceed to Round 2 which will consist of the following:
    5.1. Online Submission of Completed Collection
    5.2. Online Voting
    5.3. Tailoring
    5.4. Competition Finale
  • 5.1 Online Submission of Completed Collection
    - Teams who have been shortlisted will proceed to Round 2 with their submitted Round 1 design and it is deemed as final. No changes to the final Round 1 design are permitted without prior approval from the Organiser.
    - Each team will need to include the following items as part of their Round 2 design collection:
         1. SIS Blazer & Tie
         2. SIS Sweater
         3. SIS Baju Kurung (Female)
    - Either hand-drawn or digital illustrations of the design are accepted. All submissions must be made via the online portal before deadline.
  • 5.2 Online Voting
    - Upon submission of the Round 2 design, the completed design will be published for public voting.
    - The number of voting times may be restricted. The presence of a cap to voting and what that limit is will be made clear for each vote. Any attempts the voting limits set forth above will not be counted as valid.
    - The team with the most online votes will receive the People’s Choice Award, and prizes including RM250 cash and certificate. Additionally, 10% worth of points will be added to the final judges’ score during the Competition finale.
    - Organiser reserves the right to disqualify entries or suspend voting if it has reasonable grounds to suspect that fraudulent voting has occurred.
    - Organiser reserves the right to change, cancel or suspend this vote at any time.
  • 5.3 Tailoring
    - Teams are required to work with the appointed tailor to make the complete sets of uniforms, where the full collection will be displayed at the Competition Finale.
    - Teams are only allowed to use the tailor appointed by the Organiser.
    - The Organiser reserves the right to make, alter, display, or use the design entirely or partially, if any.
    - All finished outfits will not be returned.
  • 5.4 Competition Finale
    - The Competition Finale date, time and venue will be confirmed on a later stage.
    - Teams must attend and present their full design collection in a fashion runway for final judging during the finale.
    - Teams can choose to model and parade their own designs and/or engage models to do so. Modelling engagement and/or related expenses will not be borne by the Organiser.
    - Travel and accommodation will be arranged and covered for finalists from Johor only. The type of arrangements will be determined by the Organiser. Organiser assumes no liability or compensation for any desired travel, transportation and/or other items set outside the arrangement.
6. Submission Requirements
  • Each design must be an original work by the contestants and shall not infringe any copyrights or any other rights of any third parties
  • Online submission format is as below:
    File Format : JPEG only
    File Size : Maximum 2MB for each file
    File Name : <Team Name>_<Design Specification> Example: Marvel_FormalMaleShirt.jpg
7. Competition Timeline
  • Registration Closes : 24 April 2022
  • Round 1 Submission : 31 May 2022
  • Round 1 Shortlisted Teams Announcement : Early June 2022
  • Round 2 Online Submission : 4 July 2022
  • Online Voting Period : July 2022
  • Tailoring Completion : 31 July 2022
  • Competition Finale : 5 August 2022 (Tentative)
8. Judging Criteria
  • Shortlisted teams and winners will be selected by a panel of judges appointed by the Organiser.
  • The Organiser reserves the sole right to decide all matters and disputes arising from the Competition. All decisions made by the Organiser are final.
  • Judging Criteria include:
    - Aesthetic Design (artistic beauty, values & elements)
    - Creativity & Originality (uniqueness of the design)
    - Functional & Viability (ease of use, practicality & acceptability)
    - Theme Communication (how well the theme is expressed)
9. Winners
  • Winners will be announced at the Competition Finale.
  • Winning design will stand a chance to be adopted as the school’s new uniform. However, SIS will retain the right at its sole discretion in determining the ultimate design of the new school uniform.
  • First Prize : RM 2,500 Cash Prize & Award Certificate
  • Second Prize : RM 1,500 Cash Prize & Award Certificate
  • Third Prize : RM 1,000 Cash Prize & Award Certificate
  • Consolation Prize : RM 250 & Award Certificate
  • People's Choice Award : RM 250, Award Certificate & 10% Score Points for Final Judging
10. Additional Requirements
  • By registering for the Competition, Contestants have read and agreed to the Personal Data Protection Notice and the Rules. Contestants below 18 years of age are required to obtained consent from their parents/guardians.
  • By submitting a design, Contestants agree to the Rules, and further agrees to indemnify and hold Sunway International Schools (SIS) and their affiliates, agencies, service providers, and any of their employees harmless from any and all claims, damages, expenses, costs and liabilities, brought or asserted by any third party against any of the indemnities due to or arising out of the Contestant’s design or conduct in connection with this Competition, including but not limited to trademark, copyright or other intellectual property rights, right of publicity, right of privacy or defamation.
  • All submissions will become the property and ownership of Sunway Education Group Sdn. Bhd. (SEG) and SIS including its interest and copyright, and may be used either alone or with other designs for any purpose that SEG and SIS in their sole discretion may determine such as to promote the Competition, in all media or other media not known or later developed worldwide in perpetuity. Design and Contestant information in the Registration Form (e.g., name, country, age) may be used in any media, publications, and distribution. This grant includes without limitation the right to edit, mix or duplicate and to re-use the design in whole or part as SIS may elect.
  • Contestant agrees to release, indemnify, and hold harmless SIS and their affiliates, agencies, service providers, and any of their employees harmless from all claims of advertisement and promotional activities.
  • SIS reserves the right to amend these Rules anytime during the Competition and/or change the prizes for all groups and categories.
  • Contestants who do not comply with all the Rules will be disqualified. Organiser reserve the right to disqualify design that are deemed as inappropriate, offensive, or plagiarised.
  • In the event of a dispute on the result of the Competition, the decision made by SIS is final.
